The Asda Blues

It was Sunday 12th February, which to be honest was a really good day despite the cold and the snow. There was the rota on the Checkout host’s podium (where we go to sign in) and as usual I was put on the Self-service tills. I was surprised to find a person working there that I haven’t seen in a few weeks but to be fair I’d forgotten what days she worked as I haven’t been in ASDA for a while due to illness and auditions.

After five minutes of asking the customers to wait patiently I opened the checkouts and cleaned the tills that weren’t used. I also printed out reports so my manager knows exactly how many people have come through the self-service tills and how much people have spent. A good colleague of mine and the store Ron joined me about 10:15am. The first conversation we had of the day was that we should come up with a dance that we could do each week at the start of the shift…Must hold him to that!

My mission was to get 100% on happy to help because I failed last time I was in by 8 points. The thing that frustrated me was that I managed to do well with the majority of the customers but unfortunately I didn’t explain the reason for my assistance to one customer and that one customer happened to be the mystery shopper. I made sure that I followed the criteria today with every customer plus promoted APG (Asda Price Guarantee) because even though people know it by now some people forget the website address or occasionally forget to check. One thing that let me down today happened to be checkout 45 because the section where you put the coins in was faulty (probably still is).

I had my lunch break about 12:3Opm until 1, which I would say is a reasonable amount of time seeming as I only work for 6 hours. After I came down and was back on the self-service tills the most beautiful person in creation was working down the aisle behind. I was terrible during the day as I did count 50 beautiful people in the store but the one person that grabbed my attention had to be an Asda colleague, which is shocking as she is quite young and the thing is she has been working in the store since Christmas. My major drawback isn’t the fear of rejection as I don’t mind if she says no because I prefer hanging on to friends than lose them but the fear of myself, which does sound silly but I had a troubled past that put the fear of God in me. Dilemma of life I suppose …great at making friends, terrible at relationships.

Later on in the day a great friend of mine called Tanya came into the store and was glad that I saw her and her partner because I haven’t seen her in ages. Was so funny after they left because on checkout 19 my colleague Mary asked if I swung both ways as she noticed I hugged Tanya and her partner. To be fair I can see where she was coming from but I said no and that they’re good friends of mine. Told Ron about it afterwards and he just laughed.

Managed to get a lift home at half 4 and was so relieved when I got in because my feet were aching. For some reason and I had no clue why I just felt bad about myself and everything to do with life… Luckily it was just a moment and my good sister put a smile back on my face. Ended the night on a good note as I watched Sherlock (I’m a huge fan) and Gran gave me a coffee (got to love that woman).

Had a cold recording this song but enjoyed recording it anyway. This is Willow Avenue’s version of Wonderful life (recorded last summer). Band is no more but thought I’ll get some material up.

Tuesday’s Track by Stop-in Motion

Taking longer on the track than I thought I would but I just would like to get it right for Tuesday. This track has a beautiful melody line built up over layers of various piano sounds, which contrasts nicely with the silky smooth sound of the stringed instruments.

My main goal now is to break the piece into sections so that it has a definite beginning, middle and end section.  I have an idea for vocals and yes I will be adding harmony lines in. I can’t wait for this project to finish and it’s more special to me because I’m writing it for somebody so I hope when it is finished that she will enjoy the track just as much as I am writing it.

Briony Smith has already heard the track at its current stage and have taken her comments on board.

If only I had stage presence like this guy… MJ -just the best.
